Becks and Jamie. GNR 2022 fundraiser - In memory of Jonno

My Story

My darling husband Jonathan, dad to Rhys, Liam, Alice and James, son, brother, best mate to Jamie and so many more. Sadly passed away March 6th 2022, after a long battle with this horrible unforgiving disease, aged just 36.

So me and Jamie, have decided to do the Great North Run 2022, in Jonathan's memory. To help raise awareness and much needed funds to help support the Brain Tumour Research charity with the invaluable research they do, in the hope that together one day we will find a cure and prevent this disease from taking anymore of our loved ones too soon.

Jonathan was diagnosed with a grade 2 astrocytoma December 31st 2015. After surgery he made a remarkable recovery and life became brighter again. We had 3 great years, with holidays, new adventures, and he also went back to work. We even welcomed our youngest son James into the world in October 2018.

However 3 months later, in Jan 2019, after routine scans we found out Jonnos tumour returned and this time after more surgery confirmed it had progressed to grade 4 Glioblastoma.

He endured aggressive radiotherapy, 5 cycles of chemo, to them be told the tumour was in fact tolerant of the chemo. So in January 2020 he began a new regime of chemo. After 3 cycles we had amazing news that there was shrinkage. Through covid and the support from our amazing family whilst we shielded, Jonno had 3 more cycles of chemo and we had more great news of shrinkage and stability.

As restrictions lifted, November 2020, Jonno had to have a hip replacement. As a keen footballer in previous years and from aggressive chemo, it ruined his hip. As he recovered and more stable scans he returned to his job, working from home. Began going back to gym and our lives began to get back normal again. We enjoyed holidays, nights out with friends, cherished moments with our children.

Until July 2021 we began to see changes. Scans confirmed our fears and surgery was undertaken however not as successful as previous surgeries, he quickly began chemo again, however after just 2 cycles the tumour progressed and unfortunately Jonno declined very quickly over the last month.

We are eternally grateful to of had the amazingly brave, generous, kind and loving man of ours in our life.

If you can spare anything at all we will be eternally grateful. Please wish us luck 🙏🏻
