My Story

Hello 👋🏻

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Every week in the UK, 12 young (that is, aged 35 and under) people die suddenly from a previously undiagnosed heart condition. 80% of these young people have no signs or symptoms and so the only way to detect a potentially sinister cardiac abnormality is by having a ECG & ECHO screening test.

In 2021 I was in the midst of training for a marathon when I started to develop a right sided stabbing pain in my chest. After some back & fourth with my GP and visits to A&E, I eventually had a referral for an MRI scan. After seemingly months without a response one day I received a phone call from one of the head cardiologists at my hospital who advised I had a bicuspid aortic valve which was found by complete accident. Since this discovery I have had a loop recorder fitted into my chest and require check ups every 6-12 months and will eventually need to valve replacing.

More recently I have completed a stress test to see how my heart copes under duress and after long winded conversations with my cardiologists they have signed me off to continue with fitness prior to my diagnosis. After completing a run with a friend I stumbled across a women named Jenny Thomas who was selling items at a car boot sale and raising awareness for CRY. Naturally I spoke to her about my condition and she kindly shared with me that her son Nick had passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest at a the young age of 25. It was in this moment I felt being pulled in by fate and subconsciously knew I was going to raise money for this charity.

I am now planning to enter the great North Run in September and raise a minimum of £375 in memory of Nick. By achieving this we can hopefully prevent future families having to endure what Jenny has been through. So come on this journey with me as I gallivant around my local community and get involved in some good old fashioned fundraising ❤️
